2017 Bay Area Summer Music Festival Guide!
It’s undeniable that Southern California is the place to be for spring music festivals on the West Coast. From CRSSD in San Diego, to back-to-back Coachella and Stagecoach ragers in Palm Springs, SoCal captivates festival-minded fans March through April. But as summer approaches, Northern California steps into the spotlight.
Summer 2017 is shaping up to be a major Bay Area moment. This is the NorCal we love. The season officially kicks off with Maroon 5, Tom Petty and all the wine at BottleRock in Napa Valley over Memorial Day Weekend, and concludes with A Tribe Called Quest, Metallica and (hopefully not, but probably) Karl the Fog at Outside Lands in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park in August. In between are newcomer comedy and music collabs in the city, country fests in wine country and even an appearance from New Kids on the Block.

Bay to Breakers
Where: San Francisco
When: May 21, 2017
Although music is hardly the focus here, Bay to Breakers has earned an honorary spot on our list. This iconic, annual San Francisco event is a must-do, must-see – and a sure sign that summer has arrived. Technically speaking, Bay to Breakers is a 12K running race, starting near the Embarcadero (bay) and cruising through the city, finishing at Ocean Beach (breakers). People from all over the country visit San Francisco to dress up in wild costumes, run, walk, cheer on friends, day drink and celebrate life in style. Is this an official festival that encourages partying? Absolutely not. But there are plenty of unofficial house parties and bar events to keep everyone liquored up and entertained. Don’t forget your costume or common sense.

BottleRock is Napa Valley’s signature three-day music festival, and the 2017 lineup features Maroon 5, Tom Petty, The Roots, Foo Fighters, Warren G, Aluna George, St. Lucia and many more diverse acts. And don’t worry, BottleRock isn’t a grapes-only fest; wine lovers will freak out over the on-site Napa offerings, but craft beers, signature cocktails and tons of Bay Area food are also readily available.
